The four elements
The Water element and its spirit animals
If your element is Water, you feel before you understand, and you often understand better than anyone else. You take the shape of whatever holds you without ever losing your nature. The oracle assigns Water to profiles that live through connection and depth, for whom an emotion is information and a silence is a conversation. Here is what this element says about you, the spirit animals that carry it, and how not to drown in it.

The character of the Water element
Water is the element of connection and depth. It gives a fine sensitivity, an emotional memory as long as the tides, an intuition that picks up what is left unsaid in a room before anyone has spoken. Water profiles do not separate thinking from feeling; in them, one flows through the other.
Strengths: empathy, gentleness, adaptability, the ability to heal through presence. Water consoles, listens, connects. It holds people together the way the otter holds a paw so the family does not drift apart. It has the rare courage to go down where others dare not look.
Shadows: the sponge that soaks up everyone's moods, the melancholy that settles in, the dependence on other people's approval, the fear of conflict that says yes too quickly. Water can lose itself in others and forget its own banks. It broods for a long time, and its grudges are silent.
With others, Water is warm, tactile, loyal. It asks for depth and tires of surface relationships. On the oracle's axes, it leans towards instinct rather than reason, depth rather than lightness, and often towards the gregarious — except among its great solitaries, such as the whale or the octopus.
The spirit animals of the Water element
Six of the oracle's thirty-two animals belong to Water. Laughers and silent ones, faithful ones and elusive ones: Water takes every shape.
- The Dolphin, laughter of the waves, who dives deep without ever losing its lightness.
- The Whale, memory of the abyss, whose song reaches those it cannot see.
- The Swan, grace of calm waters, faithful unto death and hard at work beneath the surface.
- The Otter, player of the rivers, who loves by playing and turns the everyday into a feast.
- The Octopus, spirit of a thousand shapes, solitary and cleverer than anyone imagines.
- The Salmon, pilgrim of the springs, who swims upstream because it knows where it comes from.

Living with your Water element
Your season is the winter of the depths and the spring dawn over running water. Summer suits you when it is bright and slow; great commotions exhaust you.
Your practices: swimming, writing, singing, listening to music, keeping a dream journal. Water needs a place to set down what it has absorbed, or it overflows. A bath, a river, rain on a window are rituals that ask nothing of you.
Your trap is to dissolve into others. Learn to say what you want before asking what is wanted of you. A bank is not a wall; it is what lets the water flow somewhere.
Your complementary element is Earth, which gives you banks: it teaches you constancy and the concrete. Air helps you step back from what you feel; Fire and you fascinate and extinguish each other in turn. The spirit animal guide helps you read all of this in the right order.
Frequently asked questions
What is my element?
Look at what guides you when you decide: sensation and connection (Water), the concrete and the long term (Earth), the idea and the big picture (Air), drive and desire (Fire). The oracle's quiz asks questions dedicated to the element, on top of the eight axes of character, and reveals a spirit animal that carries it. In 32 doors, it also detects a secondary element.
Which spirit animals belong to the Water element?
Six of the oracle's animals carry Water: the Dolphin, the Whale, the Swan, the Otter, the Octopus and the Salmon. All of them live through depth and connection, but the Dolphin and the Otter are playful and gregarious, while the Whale and the Octopus are solitaries of the abyss. The Swan is the most faithful, the Salmon the most stubborn.
Are Water and Air compatible?
It is a fruitful pairing, but one that needs words. Air thinks, Water feels; Air flies off when Water would rather dive. Yet Air gives Water the distance it lacks, and Water gives Air the depth it skims over. The Dolphin and the Crane, the Swan and the Butterfly understand each other as soon as they agree to speak the other's language.
